Health insurance is always associated with some myths and misconceptions which obstruct people to take it up and reap the benefits of having a health insurance policy. Myth: You need to be hospitalized for 24hrs for making a claim

Fact:Do not always believe every word your insurance agent tells you. While there might be some illness which requires hospitalization for 24hours others might not demand you to be in hospital for such a long time. Some treatments like cataract, hernia, piles, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, kidney stone removal etc. are only covered under day care treatments and included in your healthcare policy that does not require 24hrs hospitalization. Unless otherwise it is not specified in your health insurance policy, admitting yourself in the hospital for 24hrs will not buy you claim.

Myth: I am fit and healthy. Why should I take a health insurance policy?

Fact: You must not come to a conclusion that you will never fall ill, illness like accidents can occur at any time regardless of how fit and young you are. Being below the age of 30 does not rule you out from not having any diseases at all. A food poison, heart attack, cancer, malaria etc can occur at any point of your life time and obtaining a health insurance protects you form unforeseen circumstances.

Myth: My health insurance will cover all my medical expenses

Fact: Some ailments and diseases are not covered under the health insurance and are strictly mentioned in the policy. Also dental, cosmetic and aesthetic will also not be covered under all insurance policies. Under any circumstances, should you hide any pre-existing illness from the insurance agent and then later submit the documents to make a claim, you will be denied it easily for not including it in your policy.

Myth: Why should I buy a separate insurance cover, I already have company insurance?

Fact: Your company may cover you till you are an employee with the organization, but it will not cover your family members. Also company rules may change anytime and there will also be limitations to certain ailments or hospitalization. Having a separate insurance cover will keep all the members of your family secure.

Myth: You need to check the list of network hospitals before buying insurance

Fact: The hospitals might change in time during the policy tenure, and can even be blacklisted by the insurance company or some hospitals might refuse cashless claim. Hence, it is advisable to check with the list of network hospitals that fall under your insurance policy

Myth: Buying online insurance is risky

Fact: Buying policy online is less time consuming, credible, transparent, less paperwork, make payments online, accessible along with more options and detailed comparison.
